Selling your Home in Northern Nevada – Making First Impressions
First Impressions count. I’m often asked about the steps one needs to go through to prepare their home for sale in the Northern Nevada Real Estate Market. The question is often followed by how fast could my home sell?
When you are looking to sell your home quickly, first impressions often make the difference between a buyer’s initial excitement and desire to make an offer or leaving that home to look at other options, more desirable. Living in Northern Nevada we live in an area surrounded by earth tones, and as yards become harder to keep green (often being replaced by dry-scape) the first impression many times comes down to your Front Door.
Did you know that mauve or beige colored doors are the least desirable colors for a door? Or that most home buyers say that a white door or a red door is the most desirable? (angielist)
The challenge is not as easy of just choosing red or white doors however. There are many factors to consider: the color of your house, the neighborhood you live in and the style of your entryway. Changing your front door and trim color might be the secret to your quick sell of your home.
So what colors look good with the Northern Nevada landscape and the Northern Nevada Real Estate? What Colors are suggested for our area? Many homes in the area use an earth tone color palette on their exterior so a contrasting darker color might be just the very option to make your entry welcoming to a potential buyer.
Depending on the color of your home, these colors should be considered first.
These three are not only traditionally some of the top preferred colors for home buyers, but they also work very well as a contrast to our natural landscape and often the earth tone our homes have.

Of course these are not the only colors to consider but we can follow simple guidelines like nothing too crazy (orange, pink, purple and grey are not crowd favorites) or to bright (yellow only looks good on the right home).
Another item to consider is the door knob itself. Changing the worn looking door knob to a new one can help accent your new door and make your entryway a highlight of the home from the first impression.
